Dodge College Junior Thesis Screening!
Last week I had the honor to share an accumulation of everything I have learned at Chapman's Dodge College, as I screened The Book of Jane, a fantasy short film I Directed while collaborating with over 50 crew members!
The film follows a young librarian, Jane, as she struggles to live up to the heroism of her past selves when she finds out that this is her last life.
Inspired by my mom's past world of working as a librarian and the writer, Sofia Kalín and my love for our sisters, we were inspired to make this story. It is close to my heart in not only the way that I wanted to impact on audiences on the themes that we touched upon, but this project is close to me because of the cast and crew that I grew incredible friendships with over the course of more than 7 months.
During the screening this past week, it became clear to me that our story did touch people's hearts. Many people came to me and let me know that they even cried while watching...including me. I even turned to my lead actress, Olivia Grey Ross, towards the end of the film and I see her balling her eyes out, same with my lovely parents and cinematographer, Lily Burke.
While incorporating fantasy, time traveling back into the 1950's and even 1600's, animation, and visual effects, we were able to create a story that moved an audience at this screening and I look forward to spreading the sisterhood strength that we share through this and share it with the world during festival season.
I cannot wait to share the film further and thank my team for helping me bring this vision to life. A special shoutout to my producers Anthony Parker and Maddie Maxfield for their unwavering support and kindness, making this ride the smoothest it can go, and full of fun.
Here's to this new Chapter of The Book of Jane !!
